Homeland Security

The Sylvania Township Fire Department continues to participate with area agencies in training, and training exercises and has received some equipment through the Lucas County Emergency Management Agency for Homeland Security.

In October 2006 the department participated in a countywide training exercise called Freedom Net.  This was a coordinated exercise with various emergency response agencies at multiple sites.  The exercise was a cooperative effort between these agencies, the Special Operations Bureau of the Toledo Fire and Rescue Dept., the Lucas County EMA and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency.

The fire department has participated in several table-top exercises with Sylvania schools in recent months.  Several members of the department have attended training through Lucas County EMA and grant funds provided by the federal government to attend specialized training in Alabama and also New Mexico.
